There are 3 types of channels. Each type serves a role, and a price point. There are your network channels. Then there are cable channels. These are channels that you might find in a cable subscription. Network stations do not have to pay the television provider to place their station on the TV, however – cable channels will have to. Last, there are premium channels. The television provider will work with the network producer to define terms that will be agreeable to both parties.
All network channels are free, and likely be the channels you would have receive OTA. Each respective network will receive their own channel that is national even though each county will likely produce their own content. For example, NBC might have channel 2, and all NBC affiliate channels will use channel 2 for their television. This will allow someone to call another person from the other side of the state, and tell them to turn on channel 2 rather than give the name of the station network. All network channels will run from channel 1 – 100.
There will also be audio music channels what would be provided to the customer for free. These channels will not require a subscription unlike many current providers. The channels will range from 101 – 200.
Cable channels will be something you might find in a cable distribution. A couple of examples will include CNN, and SyFy. As mentioned, the cable channel will have to pay to be a part of the television provider’s channel lineup. There will only be 1 lineup of cable channels. This means everyone pays the same price to watch all of the cable channels. There is no “packages”. You pay for cable, and you would get all of the cable channels. Obviously, the station operator will benefit from ad revenue. Cable channels are 201-400.
Premium channels will include stations such as HBO, or Showtime. Negotiations with the television provider will be made on the prices of what is paid to whom. The benefit of the premium channels to be on the television provider is the customer does not have to download a separate app. One could choose to not have cable channels, and pay for just premium channels. Most providers will require that you have a paid cable subscription to gain the premium channels. This will not be the case in Kaldus. Premium channels are 401-500.
Channel 0 is the PPV service. One can order live events through this channel. While not completely intuitive considering limitations of a remote control, the service will still be available and will work. It would be recommended that the television provider to provide a unique code number for the event to set up the payment. The television provider will take the money out of the payment account whether it is credit/debit card, or PayPal.
