Numbering System

There is a set way in distribution and formatting of the Kaldan Numbering System. With exception of embassy, and x11 dialing, all telephone numbers are 12 digits long for the domestic number. Kaldus will seek to acquire the +883 country code. For those that are a little nerdy might know this as the country code for iNum telephone numbers that has been shut down years ago due to lack of use, and support. Kaldus will seek this country code specifically for the 3 digit country code, and obviously since everyone with a Kaldan telephone number will have the +883 area code, it would be much more popular.

The spirit of the number will also remain. SIP providers will be given whatever information they will need to support free calling to +883, and since the terrestrial telephone network being SIP based, and the cellular network also using SIP once received by the tower, this just makes sense. All numbers will therefore be 3+12 which is the maximum for an ITU compliant telephone number. The distribution is as follows:

  • nnx – Embassy
  • nnxx – Foreign number assignment
  • x11 – Short Code Numbers
  • 0xxx – Not telephone
  • 1xxx – Government Numbers
  • 520x – Kaldan Citizen
  • 800x – Toll-Free
  • 900x – Premium Rate Numbers

Embassy

Each embassy in the nation will have a unique 3 digit number that is retrospect of the number assigned to the citizens of that country. This will be based on the foreign NIN page. For example, the Mexican embassy will be 692. The United States will be 872. This obviously only work when calling from a Kaldan number. International callers will be able to dial +883 (3 digits)0 0000 0001. In example, the US embassy will be +883 8720 0000 0001 whereas Mexico embassy will be +883 6920 0000 0001. This will make it much easier to reach the appropriate embassy. If a country doesn’t have a consulate or embassy, then that number is likely to not work. This is again because calling +883 will hopefully be free, and Ka-Tel should not have to pay for international forwarding.

Foreign Number Assignment

Any foreigner wishing to acquire a Kaldan telephone number will follow a very similar process as any citizen setting up a telephone number. Since the verification method is not the same as in Kaldus, there will have to be a set of documents that would be needed. Going to gov.ka, and select Apply for a Foreign Number. While one might initially think it is a telephone number, it is not. They must provide proof of citizenship. This will include a digital copy of a photo ID card (not a passport), and a digital copy of the birth certificate. Once the information is reviewed, and approve, you would receive your GIN, and your NIN. You would then go to back to gov.ka, and login with the password you provided during the application process. You would then be able to acquire a GAON to get a service account with the telephone provider. You would obviously be responsible for any plan prices.

If you are choosing to visit, or live in Kaldus, you would have the option to convert your phone number from SIP to cellular. Many new smartphones support at least one eSIM which will be able to be used while visiting. This means that your phone number will not change. When you return back to your home country, you can convert it back to SIP. Another option will be to install a SIP client on your smartphone, and use a data plan. This will still assume for SIP services, and no changes will be made.

Short Code Numbers

x11 numbers are short code numbers that would allow the caller to reach the appropriate destination based on their location. For example, calling 211 will ring to the local National Charity Services. All of the numbers associated with this distribution can be located on another page.

Not Telephone

Cellular devices such as cellular modems, and tablets will not be making nor receiving calls. With that said, it would not make much sense to give them a dedicated telephone number if it will not work. With that being said, all devices that fits in this category will receive an “telephone” number starting with 0. No legitimate number will begin with 0, so this can be assured that only appropriate devices will receive this particular number.

Government Numbers

Government numbers will begin with the number 1. This is to show that the number is truly a government number, and calling it will allow for the caller to disclose their GIN to the representative. No government agency will call the subscriber asking for a GIN without prior notice to assure that the subscriber knows for sure it is the government calling. Instead, an automated message will instruct the subscriber that they need to call the government number in question. Since all government numbers start with 1, the subscriber will know this is a government number.

Kaldan Citizen

Just as a foreign customer will receive the first 3 numbers as a unique number, the same will apply to Kaldan citizens. Therefore, any Kaldan citizen will get a telephone number that is +883 520x xxxx xxxx. As mentioned, the subscriber number is the same number of digits whether it is a cellular phone number or a terrestrial number. This will mean that any international callers will call a Kaldan citizen at a single rate.

Toll-Free

Any number beginning with 800x will be a toll-free number. This means anyone with a limited rate plan will be able to call these telephone numbers without using their minutes. This is much the same as government numbers, and short code numbers. Since the number is a toll-free number, it will likely be acquired by national companies that wish to make it easier for their customers to reach them.

Premium Rate Numbers

Calling these numbers will be a premium rate number. You must have funds in the phone’s account pool to make a premium rate call. The caller will hear the rate, and be required to press 1 to continue. If the caller presses 1, then they will pay for the call. If funds ran out in the middle of the call, the call will be disconnected. With that in mind, auto-reload should be setup in the control panel.
