Most of the transition will be on the part of Ka-Tel. However, in my experience, it would seem as if the coaxial for cable is strung from outside the house, and snakes in sticking out of the wall. This cable will eventually be useless. The role for Ka-Tel and television services will be to move everyone to IPTV (Internet Protocol TeleVision).
For areas where there is no cable TV, then the OTA (Over The Air) antenna will have to suffice for the time being. Customers will use the OTA antenna until fiber is rolled out to them. Once fiber optic is rolled out, then there will be a need to run an RJ45 line from the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) to inside the residence. This will then require the customer to acquire a router. If they do not have a communications closet, then the RJ45 will run to the basement. Once fiber is provided to the residence, then the customer would need to rent or purchase a set top box, or use a smart TV app. Since there will likely be no communications closet, then Wifi will likely be the only option for connecting the set top box, or smart TV to the Ka-Tel’s terrestrial services. Once this happens, then OTA television will be phased out.
For communities with coaxial television, then these lines will offer more. Since cable TV, and Cable Internet will be available, the customer will receive a set top box for basic TVs, and an option for a smart TV app. If the location does not have a communications closet, then the cable that is snaked in the location will be cut, and replaced with an ONT. Once that happens, then it would terminate as an RJ45 connection allowing the customer to use a regular Wifi router for connectivity. Once that happens, OTA TV will be phased out.
For communities that already have fiber optic won’t have to do anything special unless they are using coaxial cable TV services. Since the coaxial lines will be phased out, all current cable customers will be transitioned to fiber optic, and will use a router. The customer will then add the set top box to the router, or connect their smart TV to the router. Once this happens, OTA will be phased out.
